Question safe mode

Hello.
We have only had my sons brand new pc up and running for 24 hours.
We have full firewall/anti-spyware and anti-virus but somehow he has got "about blank" already.would you kindly tell us how to boot in safe mode bearing in mind we have no start menu, only the blue screen(fatal error)when turning on.
If we get into safe mode am i right thinking that we could then run our spyware removal and hopefully solve this problem.
thanks so much.

Re: safe mode

After the computer logo screen goes black /// & before windows starts

Tap Tap Tap keep Tapping the F8 key.

Here your options are:

1. Last known good configuration

2. Safe Mode into System Restore

3. Safe Mode & run removal tools

Also is the XP an OEM version? Did it come pre-installed?
If so do you have a Recovery Disk?
If so do you have the instructions to run the Recovery Disk?

If problems persist: what is the exact error message?

What makes you suspect about:blank?
