Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
when i click start and move my curser over to all programs, nothing happens I have tried clicking on it aswell. I have been on C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Start Menu\Programs and some of them are showing up there but not on my start menu. I have recently cloned my C drive to my E drive and formatted C, if i do a system restore, will this undo that? I have attached a picture of what comes up

Re: Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
hi....only thing i can think of is when progs get installed they create directories, eg:C:\program files\...
you have changed the directory to E:.......i dont know if its possible but your progs my still be looking in the C:......
just a suggestion.....try asking a mod.....they are geniuses....i just do this as a hobby

Re: Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
and all the progs that i have recently been on come up and the 1's that are pined to start menu also come up.
on MS Ofice word shortcut on the startmenu the location says C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Works and office\Microsoft Office this is the correct location for word. And if the directory was changed, i they would come up but without the propper icon and would not be able to load

Re: Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
thanks for the link, i tried system restore to back up the registry files and this message came up
I have had a similar error message from Arial Sound Recorder, do you think they are related to the start menu problem?

Re: Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* Common Start Menu
* Common Programs
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
* Start Menu
* Programs
as for those, they are not there!!

Re: Can't acess "all programs" menu on xp
First off that site did not list the full path. Sorry. They are here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShel lFolders\
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\
Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShel lFolders\
You can backup the registry by clicking File under regedit & choose Export.
As to your read memory errors: do you get that often? Many different programs?
As to System Restore try turning it off then back on via right click My Computer then click Properties then System Restore.
