XP switching users and using a printer

Scenario.
John Doe switches on the PC, and logs in.
He prints a document - no problem.

Jane Doe comes along, and wants to print a document from her account.
Jane clicks Start/Log Off/Switch User and then selects Jane Doe from the list of users.
She selects the document to print, but it doesn't print, although the printer is active and the document in displayed in the list of files to be printed.
She clicks Start/Log Off/Switch user and selects John Doe where the printer screen is waiting for her to click Print for the document to print.

The printer is setup as shared and is the default printer in all accounts.

Question is - why is the printer assigned to the first user, and not allowing second user to print.

Rannoch

Re: XP switching users and using a printer

Are you using Fast User Switching?

If so this may be the problem.

Many devices and applications are not compatible with the "Fast User
Switching" feature in XP. You should contact the printer manufacturer
and/or check their web site to see if the product is compatible with this
feature.

Re: XP switching users and using a printer

Good call.

Changed from Switching User to Log Off existing user and logging on to new user.

No problems.

Thanks,

Rannoch
