about:blank woes, I need some senior help!!!

Hey there in computer land. I need some serious help. about:blank has devoured my pc. I am able to log on to the net, but thats as far as it goes, not able to surf at all. Whenever I open IE, it goes to about blank. If I try to type the url in the box, it goes back to about:blank or to something saying "res:/76UYT6%$#" or sometyhing like that. Hence I am not even able to log on and try following some of the instructions here with regards to using hijackthis then post a log. What do I do? Do I have to reinstall my XP? Would uninstalling IE then reinstalling it solve my problems? Is there any hope?

Please let me know, I need to get online from home so I can stop harassing my work computer and ticking off my boss.

Try HijackThis in Safe Mode.

Or download on another computer & put on a floppy & try to run that.

Get your log & post it back to the HiJackThis section.

Again you can copy the log to a floppy & use another computer to post.

Otherwise you can try to run sfc /scannow if you have a full XP CD.

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

This will essentially repair I.E. & all system files.

Next would be to Repair XP itself as seen here:
