Unhappy XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

Have a laptop running on windows xp connected to a interactive whiteboard in one of our classrooms. It seems to be causing a problem when we run any media files on it. The video clips are displayed on the laptop screen but not on the white board. I've even tried running different clips from different sources but the result is still the same. I'm at a loss as to what could be the problem.

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

Do you know the make & model of the whiteboard?

http://www.google.com/search?q=%20in...e%20whiteboard

What is the connection with the laptop? Is this only a video problem?

Is there a particular Program that you use to connect?

Is the connection between laptop & whiteboard otherwise OK?

Do you have other laptops or computers that work video OK?

Wondering:

1. Is this a problem with the proper connection?

a) Hardware cables?
b) Software program?

2. Is this a problem with this particular laptop?

a) Do other machines work OK?

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

The board is a clevertouch board
http://www.clever-products.com/html/clevertouch.php

It's wall mounted and there are other boards of the same model in other classrooms which display video clips no problems. The board works the same in all other aspects.

The clips are from this site:

http://cachepilot/~espresso/modules/...p_bullies.html

This is a site provided via a cache box and is updated by the local education authority. I've tried a video clip that was put onto disk and it doesn't display that either. I haven't actually tried a proper dvd. Do you think it could be something to do with the media files if the dvd works when I try it.
I'm only at this school once a week as I travel to others. I'll try and dvd and see if that works.

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

Will your laptop work on another board in another classroom?

Does anyone else's laptop work on this board?

I would check to see if the problem is your laptop or the board itself.

The board has its' own Control Panel:

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

I tried another laptop and it worked fine so it must be something to do with the actual laptop rather than the board.

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

Was this laptop ever able to work these boards?

Do you have a firewall?

Are you using the USB connection or a serial port?

Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"

Re: XP/Interactive whiteboard\Video clips

Theres a setting called overlay that can sometimes cause this sort of behavior.

You want to disable it, sometimes you can get to it through the video card settings, or open media player, Tools->options->Performance->Advanced and uncheck Use Overlays.

You may also want to try turning down acceleration or fiddling with the Display Properities, by right click on desktop->properties, go to troubleshoot tab, and rachet that slider down incrementially testing.

We have the same problems in our school, we solved the problem by switching the laptop screen off using Control + F7 or whatever method the laptop uses to switch the output to whiteboard only.

The problem is caused by low amplification fro both outputs at once. You may get the same problem with desktop PC's that have dual output graphic cards, with these you try each output as one of them is the master output.

The best solution is to use a powered video splitter which does not seem to suffer these problems
