Re: Freezing!!!!!

Do you not know the make & model of the computer?

Or the make & model of the motherboard?

Do you have a BIOS disk?

How did you reformat? A Repair Install of XP? Clean Install?

Have you tried again?

Re: Freezing!!!!!

The SiS-360 is just ID'ing the chipset:

http://www.sis.com/download/

To find a BIOS upgrade we would need the actual board ID.

There are so many factors in this equation and most are fairly simple;

We just need to troubleshoot (as they say).

Many of you symptoms are related to the BIOS / before windows can even start.

Do you have any idea as to what might have been happening & or changing when this problem surfaced?

Re: Freezing!!!!!

sometimes it freezes before windows begins, but usually freezes when windows is open. sometimes after it has frozen the computer will not turn back on, the only way to get it to turn back on is buy disconnecting it from the power point for about 10 minutes then trying again.

did u want me to update the drivers? is that why you sent the link to SiS?

the only thing that might be a possible reason for the freezing is something could have gone wrong when reformatting my computer, or when i reinstalled all the programs that i had before formatting. when downloading these i may have got a virus or something?... yer other than that i would have a clue.

Re: Freezing!!!!!

It would be the best to ID that motherboard ... try this program:

http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...ng=en&pageid=1

I have no quick awnsers but only diagnostic processies;

Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

Also view your Error Log via:
[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

Also for the deeper searches:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

Then:

1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.
