XP System Restore doesn't work since I replaced hard drive.
XP System Restore doesn't work since I replaced hard drive.
Several other apps also either don't work or don't work like they did.
When I start SR I can only see one restore point, the one I made the day after I replaced my hard drive.
But now when I try to create a new restore point it allows me to enter the name, then after I click OK I get the message
"System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer , and then run System restore again."
After I restart I run System Restore again and get the same message.
Also, the restore points I made before I replaced my hard drive no longer show up.
When I replaced the drive (with a Maxtor 80 gb), I used their MaxBurn program to duplicate everything form the old one to the new one. It boots from the new C drive and runs OK and all my programs are there, but some act strangely. I'm wondering if these programs are looking for some kind of system volume information tho make sure they are still on the original system.
Office Professional 2000 SR1 is asking for "data1.msi" from the SR1 upgrade, even though I upgraded long ago.
Other licensed software is asking for the registration key.
The old drive is still in my machine as slave with all the programs still on it. Did MaxBurn not copy some hidden files I can rescue from the old drive? Supposededly the new drive is an exact duplicate.
My only copy of XP Home is on the OEM CD that came with my machine. I REALLY don't want to install hundreds of programs again. Is there some setting I can change to avoid all this?
