Start-up

Good morning all: lately when I start my PC a window comes up with "GWRMDX.EXE -- unable to locate component.

This application has failed to start because GWUTIL.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
-------------------------------------------------
I don't know what application it is talking about so can't re-instal. Also I have no knowlege whatsoever what DLL and things like that are or mean.

Can someone help me please. (in kid's language please)

I would also like to know if there is a correct way to do a system restore please.
Each time I do one of those I find the free space on my C drive gets less and less. Is there a remedy for this?? Many thanks, Ralph

Re: Start-up

Ralph did you have a greetings workshop progran installed? Its some sort of reminder program for birthdays etc? If you have you might try re installing it, should fix the error.

Help Please

Lately when I start up my PC I get....... gwrmdx.exe__ Unable to locate component.

This application has failed to start because gwutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.
-------------------------------------

I don't know which programme they are refering to and when it comes to gwutil.dll........I give up!

Whenever I do a System Restore I find that the available free space on my C drive gets less and less. Is this normal or am I doing it all wrong??
If there is a right and wrong way to do it; you can bet I'm doing the wrong way.

Thanks for any help. Regards, Ralph

Re: Help Please

As Tassie Devil posted: the program is Microsoft's Greetings Workshop.

You can stop the start-up error by stopping it from starting up.

Go to Start/Run/ msconfig | Start up

Find the gwrmdx.exe box & uncheck it.

This could also be an indication that your computer time & date is incorrect.

You can set this via: Control Panel | Date & Time.

You can repair the program by reinstalling it.

As to System Restore there is an option to set the allocated disk space via:

Right click My Computer then click Properties then System Restore.

12% of your drive is default but you can set it as low as you want.

You can also clear all previous Restore Points by turning OFF then back ON.

This option is also available under All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup | More Options | System Restore
