freeing up disk space

I'm running low on hard disk space. Can I delete any of the Windows Security Updates files to regain some or all of 2.9 GB currently taken up by past update files and now stored in the Windows directory? Which files should be retained?

Re: freeing up disk space

SP2 & all subsequent Critical Updates should be on every XP computer.

2.9 GB

That is a ball park figure for XP SP2 & all critical updates. Not unusual for the whole package.

I would suggest adding a new slave hard drive if disk space is an issue.

You can uninstall uninstall files

Also:

you can run system maintenance tools to tidy up space:
