laptop help!
when i turn my laptop on it just tells me the stats and doesnt boot xp, when i put my xp disc in, it wont let me repair but it still shows that ive got used memory on it. how do i fix this?

If you dont know all of this information please provide as much as you know or ask us and we can point you in the direction of some great system information tools to help you in this regard.

Toshiba a30-222 p4 2,8ghz/winxp

laptop switched off a week ago, and it was static build up and had that repaired but i just dont want to loose my docs but it says it needs formating!

The Repair job didn't include a functioning Operating System?

You have a Toshiba Recovery disk? Toshiba no longer lists that laptop.

Do you have the manual in order to search for your Recovery Options?

What is the exact error message that you receive?

If it says you need to format I guess that you need to format as per the Toshiba XP CD.

If this is the case then you can first extract your data by slaving your laptop drive on a desktop PC using an adapter such as this one:

maybe you try to start in DOS - commandpath... So you can save all data's manual...
An other choice i think your RAM Memory is damaged... Check it out!


PS: Sry School English in Germany like's no really english^^

Download a SUSE 9.2 LIVE cd ISO here: http://channels.lockergnome.com/linu...ve_cddvd.phtml

Burn the ISO to a CD, set your computer to boot from CD and boot from the linux disk. It will take a few minutes to load, but will run from the CD, nothing is changed on your harddrive. There will be a MY COMPUTER icon. Click on it and you will be able to see your windows files. You should be able to burn your documents, pictures and mp3 files to CD. Then fix the laptop (reformat if necessary). Charlie (Hi Bear)

Adding to my previous post, I tried the SUSE 9.2 LIVE and wasn't happy with it. A better choice would be MEPIS 3.3 or Linspire 5.0 LIVE. Linspire is available as a bittorrent download. SUSE 9.3 LIVE does work, but it is a 1.5GB ISO and must be burned to a DVSD. Charlie
