Blue screen startup, complete novice here HELP!
Stupidly turned my laptop off straight from the power button (which normally would have no effect) and now when i boot up i am faced with a blue screen with the following message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prvent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error sceen, restart the computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware of software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode.
Technical information:
*** STOP; 0x000000ED (0x80F18030, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Well i have tried starting up in safe mode and i get the same message, ive tried the BIOS thing and the memory options cannot be found and i havent installed any new software or hardware in the past month or so. im going out of my mind here, can someone please help
thanks in advance

i had exactly that problem, couldnt boot in safemode or anything, had to do clean install of xp (or was that a different time ) anyway, i have had that error, i remember it lol.
You will DEFINATLEY need an xp cd, unless you can access the recovery console and try to fix it that way

Re: Blue screen startup, complete novice here HELP!
Unless you have previously uploaded the Recovery Console from the XP CD you will need your XP CD.
Did this computer come with XP installed or did you install it?
If the former check the manual for using your Recovery Disk.
If the latter you will need to get an XP CD.
More variations on the error can be found here;
