slow mouse

My mouse is intermittently slow. i.e really jerky one minute- then the next its fine.Its started yesterday. I have played with the mouse speed options in the control panel-to no avail. I have an infa red mouse. Any help will be gratefully received.

Do you have another mouse that you can try? Just to test if it is a mechanical problem rather than software?

If it is a software issue you could try a system restore.

Do you have any special software installed for this mouse?

You could also try cleaning the bottom of the mouse.

You can also check the device manager:

Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc | Mice and other pointing devices

Tried this thanx- to no avail. The whole computer is running slow now. I have posted another thread with hijack report.
