Re: outlook express....

The Inbox Repair Tool is a tool in Outlook; not Outlook Express.

What is the exact full error message?

Are you unable to open OE? Is that when the error appears?

A possible solution is to delete the current inbox. It will be re-created on restart.

Go to Start | Search & type in .dbx then delete inbox.dbx

If you want to save anything in the inbox then create a new folder & move the contents first.

Outlook Express does not have an Inbox Repair Tool.

Inbox.dbx is the file currently associated with your Inbox folder. You may
Move (not Copy) the damaged Inbox(1).dbx to another Windows folder and try
running DBXtract http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ on it. Recovered messages,
if any, can be dragged to an open OE folder though I don't recommend the
target being your current Inbox.

For future reference:

Address the complications of Background Compacting:

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive old messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.
