How un-password external drive

Please can anyone help my old laptop was damaged so I have got myself a new one. I have made the hard drive from the old laptop an external drive E. I can access the drive but can not open documents because they are protected by my password on that drive. How can I input the password to this drive so that it it knows its me that wants to see my stuff.

Re: How un-password external drive

Was this the XP logon password or how did you password protect your files?

Do you still have a version of XP on the external drive or just files?

Thanks for your interest; yes it was the XP logon that protects it and XP is on that drive.

Re: How un-password external drive

I am a little confused as to what you are seeing & doing but if you can access the external drive XP:
press Ctrl/Alt/Delete where there is an option for changing passwords.

But I get the impression that you cannot access that XP?

If I am misunderstanding your situation please describe in more detail your actions & responses.

Sorry for the confusion
