Window drags

I hope I have this in the correct location.

I noticed for a few months that when I have windows open that when I move them they drag. Is there a way to fix that? I tried deleting things and emptying my temporary internet files and making more room on my disk drive but its still doing the same thing. I tried scanning for viruses also but nothing came up. Is it a memory problem? It doesn't seem to matter when it happens. It can be when i first turn the puter on or if its been on for hours. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks for any help

Re: Window drags

First off:

Right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Performance Settings

Try setting to Adjust for best performance to see if that helps.

If not we can try other things.

Re: Window drags

Hi Jephree,

I changed the setting and it still does it. It doesn't seem to do it as bad when i have one browser open but if I open more than one browser and windows then its pretty bad.

Re: Window drags

Can you try another mouse?

How much RAM do you have? (right click My Computer then click Properties | General | RAM)

Open your Task Manager (right click a blank portion of the Task Bar | Task Manager) Performance:

What is the CPU Usage? What is the Physical Memory (K) Total | Available?

Check your Display Adapter in the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
Double Click on it. Does it say Working Properly?
Even if so post back the ID of the card. Looking for updated drivers might help.

Re: Window drags

Your RAM appears to be fine.

If you double click the line in the Device Manager it should say the device is working properly.

Do you have any other graphics problems?

What is the make & model & # of the laptop?

Just curious: what happens if you close all browsers & open the Task Manager & move that window about?

Re: Window drags

ohhh ok, i double clicked on it and it said it was working properly.

as far as i know and can remember i haven't had a problem with the any other graphics. I was having that one error message when I had IE close.. it was the memory error. I can't remember the codes but its only happend twice since we talked last a few months ago.

how do i find out the number? Its a sony vaio pcg-grv680. Its about 3 years old. I have been using the air can to get dust out and i use one fan adapter under the laptop and another external fan on the side if it starts to heat up. But either way when it heats up or not it still has the dragging screen.

I tried closing the browsers and opened task manager. It didn't do the draging and only went up to max of 18% I then tried to open 2 IE browswers and the highest it went up was 50% I then opened my computer screen and the highest it went was 68% with wiggling the window. At the moment it seems like its the browser that causes the dragging. o.O but not all the time.

Re: Window drags

This driver is 2 years old but might be worth a try:

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1185&os_id=7

I see no precedent of this issue being caused by XP itself.

More links to your model:

Re: Window drags

um, i dl and installed the first linked one. I read thru the second link. I didn't see anything there. I also use a travel mouse from micro innovations. I looked through there and didn't seen updates for my type though. It says the package came with a disk but non of them do and this one has no update.

sorry i'm a big dork lol. its still dragging. i should have mentioned that while i was posting.

Re: Window drags

Have you tried another browser other than IE? Just to check if IE is the problem?

Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Also if you open the Task Manager with IE open does that window move OK?

Trying to see if this is an IE issue alone.
