Re: Writing files to disc!

Just to clarify: Nero works fine but the XP Wizard does not?

Did the XP Wizard ever work for you?

Are these new disks? If not they may need to be Fully Erased | Formatted.

Also if you used Nero previously on these disks the XP Wizard may have problems.

Re: Writing files to disc!

Any new hardware or software coinciding with this issue?

Perhaps try lowering the write speed. There is a "record" tab on the disk properties dialog.

Also here are some troubleshootig ideas:

Quote:
Error: Can not complete the CD writing wizard.
This error message may occur if the IMAPI CD Burner service is turned off. To resolve this issue, make sure that the service is running and that it has not been turned off. By default, the service is set to Manual. Start the IMAPI CD Burner service, and then test it by writing to a CD-R or a CD-RW. If the service works, you may have to set the service to Automatic if it does not start in Manual mode. To set the service to Automatic, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc /s in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Double-click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service.
3. Under Service Status, click Start.
4. Try to write data to a CD.

I would look at whether the drive is using PIO or DMA. Windows has a nasty habit of dropping a drive down to PIO without telling you after there have been some errors. Here's an excellent page with an explanation and a fix:

Re: Writing files to disc!

The more I read on this issue the common reply appears to be that if you use a third party burner turn off IMAPI & do not use the XP Wizard. Or else delete the third party (Nero).

I realise that this is not a solution per se Nor do I know why the service would have changed if you could use both programs previously.

If you have a retail version XP CD you could try running sfc /scannow from start/run. This will replace any damaged system files. You will need to insert your disk.

Re: Writing files to disc!

sfc /scannow will run its' course & end. No report.

Did you ever try the write speed option? & or clearing the queued files?

& just out of curiosity If Nero works why the need for the XP wizard?

Everywhere I look I find this error related to conflicting softwares.

Re: Writing files to disc!

hi,
yes i tried the write speed from fastest down....didnt make any difference, also cleared files.
i'am beginning to think now maybe it is the nero or alcohol interferring.....?you say why do i need the writing wizard if i got nero?well i was up until this if i needed to back-up any programs i have installed then i would highlight+rightclick send to rw drive...dont know any other way?and this has been working with nero+alcohol both on before....maybe the fact that it did all work before is just annoying.....you know when we are faced with a situation we like to get it resloved the best way we know...out of principle!and to learn from any mistates incase we come across this again!

Ps.....as soon as i put a disc(cd-r)or any other in the icon on my rw drive changes to cd drive?

Re: Writing files to disc!

I keep searching ... more info but no solutions yet.

Do you have adequate free space on your hard drive?

Another try would be to uninstall the Optical Drives from the Device Manager & reboot allowing XP to reinstall its' drivers.
