Windows XP restarting and screen ripples

I have posted to this forum quite a bit now and your probably getting fed up with me. Anyway I will take the chance and hope you will have mercy on me. My computer will work fine for a while and then the problems will start. It will restrart spontaneously. Now originally when I posted a thread regarding this you gave a lot of very good advice and I did discover that I had failing ram. I bought new ram and my wee computer was working fine. I also had screen rippling which I thought I had resolved by downloading drivers at your suggestion and indeed that seemed to help.

However the same problems seem to be occuring again at frequent intervals. As said before the computer will restart spontaneously and I do not even get a chance to read the blue screen error its gone so quickly. My daughter and I play the Sims 2 game a lot and it has happened while we are playing the game. Could this have anything to do with the problems?

The rippling occurs usually when the computer has been on sometime and usually when it heats up.

Re: Windows XP restarting and screen ripples

Post all you want! We like to help here

Your errors are indeed repeating from your earlier posts

Did you ever change your auto-restart setting?

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

I've been reading horrible reviews of your graphics card: NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro

Including many heat issues. Would you happen to have another card that you could test?

The latest drivers for NVIDIA's TNT2 are here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html

Please make sure to read the Driver Installation Hints Document before you install this driver.

I would first verify that that card is indeed a NVIDIA card & not some other manufacturer using NVIDIA's chipset. To do that try Start/Run/ dxdiag | Display
What is the Device listed? If it is NVIDEA then you might try the updated driver.

Post future errors as you get them.

Re: Windows XP restarting and screen ripples

Thank you for your reply. I don't have another graphics card but the device listed in dxdiag is Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Model 64. I will try your suggestion and download the driver.
