some web page buttons not working

With IE 6 some buttons within webpages do not or will not function. I suspect this is a setting but can't figure out the solution.

EG; on the Google search page if i enter something for a search string and hit "Search" nothing happens (even if I hit the return key same thing) but I can search from the Google tool bar.

Logging into sites like this that have buttons is impossble. Everything else like links and other button functions inside web pages seem to work ok EG download buttons etc.

It appears to be limited to buttons that are related to a text entry field.

Anyone have a solution or run into this before??

OS XP Pro, browser IE 6 (both fully updated)

NOTE: Everything works OK in Firefox 1.5

Cheers and Tx in advance Reversespin

Have you tired reinstalling IE?

Also why wouldn't you stay with Firefox? :P

Reinstalls don't fix it. I use both for testing. I've done 2 complete reinstalls of the system in the last 4 days or so. I suspect it has something to do with MS's updates and possibly their firewall.

I had a sweet system before I lost all the formatting on my C drive. Getting everyhting back on and upto date has been nothing short of a major headache.

This problem is something simple but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. These buttons work with a text entry field so theirs some type of scripting/java involved. I think it's a setting that forbids the button executing a script but I can't seem to get the settings into the right configuration to make it work.

Cheers

Hey!

Have you tried going to "Tools->Internet Options->Advanced" and restoring the default settings? IE should not give you a trouble with default settings.

Hello again!

You may want to take a look at this website:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

You can also try doing this:

Open an ms-dos prompt window and type the following hitting enter after each line.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

If that doesn't solve the issue you may think about rolling back to IE 5.5?
