How to stop the System Tray to auto hide?

Hi guys,

I'd like to have the System Tray all time showing all icons on it, that is, I don't want the auto hide to work when number of icons on the System Tray is greater than a certain number. By the way, is such number of icons that trigger the auto hide customisable?

If you right click on the taskbar and select properties you will see a box with hide innactive icons, take the tick out and click on apply and then ok. and this is also customisable aswell.

Well, you're right but this is for the taskbar. I'd like to access the same functionality for the System Tray, which is the area just beside the clock where the icons rrfering to several running programs (like Norton's pgms) appear.

Do you know how I can do it?

That is for the system tray, only in xp it is called the notification area, and that will remove the arrow.

Wow... how dumb I'm ... have been before at this panel and never "saw" what I was after ...

Anyway, thanks a lot. This is exactly what I need. BTW, you have mentioned the number of icons before the auto hide take place is customisable. Could you pleade let me know how it can be done?

The only limit is physical space. If you leave the Hide box unticked then it will not hide.
If you run out of room on one line just make the Task Bar expand to two lines.

First right click it and uncheck Lock the Taskbar; then place your pointer on the top edge until it becomes double edged <-> vertically; click it and hold click as you move up till another line appears.

You can fill the whole screen with the Task Bar if you like

very funny, Jephree... how nice would it be to have a screen full of icons in the Task Bar ... the whole desktop filled in by icons... (:-<))

I'm already pretty happy just by unchecking that box and keeping the System Tray showing all icons all time.

The question was if there would be a way to only customise the number of icons that trigger the auto hide on the System Tray. The way I see it, that box (hide innactive icons) would be kept ticked and there would be a place to setup the number of icons that would be showed all time before hidding some and adding the arrow. Say I choose 9, then only after the placement of the 10th icon the arrow would show up, but still showing the other 9.

Anyway, I don't think the programmers have thought this kind of feature for XP.

Not quite like that but you can customize it.

Recheck the Hide box and then go into Customize...

Here you can click each icon and choose: Always Hide; Hide when Inactive; or Never Hide.
