Question (Possibly) QuickTime & IE/Mozilla issues

Hello all,

I own the administrative account on this computer, and my brother frequently accesses the guest account. I find myself unable to view videos from certain websites (one of them being www.ebaumsworld.com) through IE/Mozilla. However, my brother is able to view the videos that he pleases as long as they are run in Internet Explorer. He has not downloaded any software that could have aided his viewing capabilities to my knowledge. The only things he might have installed in the guest account are a couple of games.

I was always able to view videos in IE before, but I had always encountered a difficulty in doing so when Mozilla was involved, and I continue to stumble upon this difficulty. My friend suggested that I should download QuickTime Alternative, and so I did, configuring the MIME settings to his specifications. Mozilla still refused to play any videos, stating that I'm missing a required plug-in or something along those lines. IE just displays the small box and a red 'x' at the top of the video box, an indication that the video won't load at all.

I no longer use QuickTime Alternative; instead I installed QuickTime 7.0. This has proved to be fruitless, though.

I'm at a loss as to what could be the problem behind this issue. I'm not entirely sure about this assumption, but if my brother is able to view videos on the guest account without fault, I should be able to do the same, since I utilize the administrative account to do so. I should have all the proper codecs necessary in order to view anything I please.

I'm not thoroughly knowledgeable on computers, so please be merciful. I have even contacted the Gateway Tech Support department, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Can you view this video? Most of the videos on that site are played in media player.

No, I can't. I've used that video as my 'guinea pig' after I re-installed QuickTime, WMP, and IE.

Edit:

I didn't want to double post, so...

I visited CNN.com and clicked on a link for one of the videos. A different window popped up and delivered this message:

"Plugin Warning! The CNN.com video is optimized for Windows Media Player 9.0 or above. No Windows Media Player detected."

Truth is, I have WMP version 10.0.

I got that message as well and I have media player 10, I turned the video off and back on again and it worked for some reason.

That's awfully strange. It won't work on my Firefox either way. I have version 1.5 installed, if I'm not mistaken.

I FINALLY got it to work in IE, which is a miracle in my book. Firefox's still shaky, though.

In IE, no; it works perfectly fine.

In FF/Mozilla, the vid box tells me I need to click on it in order to download a plugin. So I did, tried to 'manually install' it, and got absolutely nothing out of it.

Re: (Possibly) QuickTime & IE/Mozilla issues

I had this same problem a few months ago until I updated my version of FF to Firefox/1.5.0.1. Check that is the version that you have. You could try downloading the IE view tab from here and the IE tab from here, if you don't already have them. Then try to load the same page and right click and "Load page in IE tab" to see if the video will play.

I do have version 1.5.

I've downloaded the IE view tab and the IE tab but they were both unsuccessful when it came to the installation. I chose IE as the service that should install the files, but they won't even pop up.
