Cannot type in any info !!
I have a legitimate windows XP version and i have only had the pc for about 7 months and have just got connected to Broadband. Everytime i go to a website and there is info to type in on the website it wont let me type anything in. I CAN type into the address bar to go to the website i require but when the website appears i cannot type anything into it.
This is a problem offline to as i was told to creat a new User Account incase the old one was corrupt and it wouldnt let me type in the new name for the User Account.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what this problem might be and how i might fix it ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
So when you type just nothing happens?
Is there a blinking cursor in the box?
Are you logged on as an Administrator?
Try start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Hardware > Troubleshoot
Also are you using XP SP2? Is it Home or Pro?

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
Hi Thanks for the reply. There is no blinking cursor in the box on any pages that i try to type into. I have SP2 on the pc (it came on the pc). Microsoft asked me to uninstall it so i did but made no difference. I am the only user on the pc and am on as an administrator and it is XP Home.
Hope that helps,
Thanks,
NIkki

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
As per the description your keyboard seems to be alright as you're able to type web addresses , could you let me know the Version & Cypher strenght of your browser ie : Click Help > About Internet explorer .
Sometimes the IE tends to be corrupt so one could re-install it but before tht if you cud provide the following details then we could work something out.

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
Hi, I have uninstalled and reinstalled I.E. with Microsofts help but again no luck at all. It still does the same thing.
Thanks again and please keep replying and hopefully something will work out.

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
You could try downloading firefox. This will help determine whether the problem is with your pc or IE.
Incidently I had this problem about a year ago but can't remember how I fixed it.

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
The User Account issue is very strange tho
Are you saying that you cannot create a new user because you cannot type in that box?
Control Panel > User Accounts

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
Yeah, anything that involves typing into a box just will not work. The cursor never appears to let me type. I have clicked, double clicked and nothing will bring in the blinking cursor. Yet - I can type a full word processing document without any trouble at all.
Its such a strange problem !!
It looks as if i am going to have to do a reinstall. Only problem is that i am going to lose all my work cause i cant type to save anything.
Anymore suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks Jephree again,
Nikki

Re: Cannot type in any info !!
What is the make and model of the computer?
Most Recovery | Repair disks have a Non-destructive option which only reinstalls the operating system while leaving your programs and data intact.
I have been searching this behavior and come up with no precedent so far
