PC randomly crashing & cannot browse internet

My PC has been randomly crashing for a few months, mainly when gaming and you have to leave it for 10 minutes or so before you re-start it. Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on PC. Crashed last week and when I re-started it I couldn't browse the internet - I kept getting a message saying 'this page cannot be displayed ....' Checked with internet provider & it works when the web address is put in a number format. Can anyone please help?

Re: PC randomly crashing & cannot browse internet

There's a few reasons for crashes mostly to do with hardware. check for dust round your processor fan an remove with a hoover. Check your memory by replacing with good Check your PSU and finally Check your motherboard.
I dont think your internet issue is causing a shut down. recycle your modem and make sure you username has an @ in it.
Good Luck!

Re: PC randomly crashing & cannot browse internet

The timing before you can restart suggests a heat issue. As mentioned cleaning and checking your fans would be a good idea. Perhaps run with the case open to verify all fans are working.

Also view your Error Log via:
[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

Hiya!

Thanks for replying, will check the fans etc. tonight. Got someone to have a look at home (having to do this from work due to internet probs), this is what came up:

System had 2 X errors on that day - the md simple burner service terminated unexpectedly & windows unable to connect to the automatic update services

Application - no errors

Security - there was a failure audit about IPSec Services failed to get complete list of network interfaces on the machine. This can be a potential security hazard to the machine since some of the network interfaces may not get the protection as desired by the applied IPSec filters... Looking back, this message first appeared 2 days before my internet problems started and keeps appearing every time the PC is started up.

What do you think?

Many thanks for your help!

Re: PC randomly crashing & cannot browse internet

md simple burner is a service added by Sony. Some type of CD burner perhaps Sony Jukebox?

See if you can maually go to Windows Update. start > All Programs > Windows Update

Here is a search on the IPSec error:
