Smile PC freezes

Hi,

Just wondering if you could help me...

For the past month my Q-Tech pc kept crashing after logging in and going onto internet, a blue scrteen would come up and say something about bios. So i rang up the customer Services dept and told them and they said to un-install everything and load Windows XP again and set some settings. I did this and set up bt ionternet and norton anti virus and when i log in it all freezes and nothing else....

Many Thanks

Lou

Re: PC freezes

What did it say about the BIOS? What settings did you set?

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

If so: view your Error Log via:

[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

Look for any synchronous entries.

You might try to reinstall again and do not install Norton to see if that works.

Did you reinstall with a Q-Tech recovery disk?

Was the reinstall Destructive or Non-Destructive? Or did you have this option?

Re: PC freezes

With an OEM XP Recovery CD there is usually an option of a Destructive Recovery or Non-Destructive.

This relates to the Microsoft XP CD as a Clean or Repair Install respectively.

A clean install formats/wipes the partition whereas a Repair install only replaces the XP files leaving your programs and data intact.

Let us know how it goes. After the reinstall I would first get SP2 and try the machine without Norton just to see if it works OK. Norton lays a very heavy hand on the Operating System.
