DVD RW device doesn't burn DVDs

Hello (again)...

I have a sony DVD RW DW Q30A drive which plays Cds, DVDs, burn CDs but... doesn't want to write any DVDs (-R or RW).

The message is "no DVD recorders present in the system"

I have an original win XP home edition system and till now, no problem burning CDs or listening CD and playing DVDs.

Now, I wanted to make a backup copy an old movie from a DVD, but nothing happened.

I've tried also to copy any data from my PC onto a DVD (both -R and RW) nad again, the same message.

I've also downloaded a copy DVD software to get more options in my attempts and after several seconds of thinking and not blinking, the system came with the message "done with errors; invlaid entry; no media detected"

I would appreciate some thoughts about this, please.

Many thanks

Soothie

I'm not sure, but do you think you have the right driver? Uninstall the XP driver it and try to get a driver from your manufacturer.

Re: DVD RW device doesn't burn DVDs

XP does not have the ability to burn or play DVD's.

What software are you using?

Are you certain that the disks are compatible with the drive?

Also view your Error Log via:

[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

Look for any synchronous entries to a burn attempt.

Re: DVD RW device doesn't burn DVDs

The cd/dvd drive has on it the symbol cd/dvd-rw and dvd video r/rw

i've uninstalled all writing softwares and tried again with clonedvd. again, error message reading media. also, I've notice that the system was not responding at the attempts to read the dvd inside. I have to task manager end program now three times.

in the cd-rom drive properties, it shows the drive as full (blue pie) but states it works properly.

My win xp came iwth sp2. I heard rumors that possibly sp2 may cause some troubleshooting with drives. unfortunately, I cannot install sp1 to check if it makes any difference...

i'm not a pc geek and I would mess up going into registry entries, logs, etc...

I was thinking that all I need is a good operating system, drivers and the adequate software

I would appreciate some solutions, please

Cheers

Soothie

Re: DVD RW device doesn't burn DVDs

My first guess is that your disks are not compatible. cd/dvd-rw cannot use cd/dvd+rw

Most all SP2 issues have long been resolved.

You risk nothing by viewing the error log. There might be some clue there if indeed your disks are compatible.
