Unhappy [Help] Computer can't open

I've got problem with my computer. It's that when I turn it on, it can be on, but shows no BIOS. Later on, there is sound like police sirens.
I've tried to unplug-plug all the cables, but still the same.
Please can anybody help me... what should I do.
Is it possible that my harddisk is dying??? I hope it's not happening... I'm having my midterm tomorrow....my files are all in there........................aaaa....

Thank you so much..

Re: [Help] Computer can't open

its not a harddrive problem (if it is it is something else aswell)

If it was a HD problem you would get "primary drive 0 not found"

is it just the fans and power light on? (i.e no HD spinning etc)
if it is, it could possibly be the CPU

there is sound like police sirens.
Could you please describe this in more detail?
-is it coming from the base of you computer? (not the speakers)
-is it just one continuous tone or does it's pitch vary?
-does it stop and start or just carry on?

to back up your files, put your HD in another computer as a slave drive (bottom of the ribbon cable and jumper set to slave, this varies depending on the drive make + model)
then, you need to copy them to either the HD in that computer or an external storage device (cd/dvd/usb memmory stick/external HD/mp3 player.........)

also, did you get a windows xp recovery cd with your computer? if so, put it in your cd drive change your boot devices in the bios setting to cd first (if you can):
Quote:
1. Power on the computer. Press the Pause/Break key as soon as you see text on the screen.

[If you currently are running in an OS of any flavor, insert XP CD and restart computer. Skip to #3 if system is configured to boot from CD.]

2. Insert XP CD into CD drive. Press ENTER to resume booting from the XP CD. (BIOS must support booting from CD and boot order must be set so CD boots before hard drive.
Hope this helps, Mike

Re: [Help] Computer can't open

Yes details are good, also try unpluging all uneeded devices, ie your PCI cards, your USB cords, and anything besides your CPU, Memory, HardDrive, Video Card, Moniter Power Supply, Moniter, Mother Board

if the same problem still occors then we have limited it down to thoes devices
thanks in advance for your quick response
