Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
Hey, have an xp computer here. When trying to get into yahoo games applet fails to load and if I click "click here if applet fails to load" i get into the game but the window freezes.
In event viewer there's errors regarding IExplorer hangs and application hang fault bucket: 126637809.
I've tried reinstalling IE, reinstalled JAVA, macromedia player. Tested RAM. removed spyware, no viruses present.
Tried running it with McAfee security centre turned off and no other 3rd party software running in the background.
Any suggestions what it might be?
thanks
Maria

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
Did these games ever work OK?
What are the Event ID #'s plus the Description listed in the Event viewer?
What did you do when you say that you: tried reinstalling IE?
Did you uninstall all JAVA before reinstalling?
Did you load the latest?

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
1. Did these games ever work OK?
2. What version of XP do you have?
3. Also what Toolbars do you use?
IE should not appear in add/remove as it is integrated into XP.
As to that reinstall error the registry keys are described here:
How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/
Quote:
Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet Explorer 6
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
When you try to reinstall the same version of Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system.
Setup cannot continue.
To avoid this error message and reinstall the same version of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, follow these steps: 1. While you are logged on as an administrator, click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate the appropriate registry subkey, right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value, and then click Modify.
To reinstall only the Internet Explorer 6 browser component on Windows XP, use the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
To reinstall only Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP, use the following registry key:

4. Change the value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK.
5. Quit Registry Editor, and then install Internet Explorer 6.
6. To reinstall Windows XP updates, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
Hey, it's a brand new computer out of the box. so the games haven't worked yet. The computer has windows xp home sp2. IE shows as a windows component under add/remove windows components. Doesn't it uninstall when you untick the internet explorer box? That was my assumption.
There's only yahoo toolbar installed on the computer. Just reinstalled java. verifying windows files now. Do you think I should reinstall IE as per give instructions?

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
No. Do not. The above was for XP or XP SP1.
If you ever need to repair/reinstall IE in XP2 you need to reinstall/repair from the XP disk.
When you untick that box it just makes IE unusable (or it should). IE cannot be removed from XP.
If the problem persists try turning off or uninstalling the Yahoo Toolbar.

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
Jephree,
I've uninstalled the yahoo toolbar and still it's not loading. the funny thing is that the window only freezes up after I click "click here if applet doesn't load" up until that point I can close the window safely.

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
Did you reboot after uninstalling?
Is this where you are starting from?
http://games.yahoo.com/games/front
Do you have the SP2 Firewall enabled?
Do you have any other pop-up blockers running?
Do the Event Viewer Errors always appear the same with every freeze?

Re: Problem loading java applet for Yahoo Games
starting from www.alleykatzdan.com/yahoo/canasta.html
I did restart the computer. SP2 firewall is enabled. no other pop up blockers running. The event viewer alternates between the two errors I've written down. Sometimes both of them at the same time other times one but not the other.
I will try to start the games from a different page with firewall disabled.
