Totally stumped-unable to surf, w32time error?

Totally stumped-unable to surf, w32time error?

Ok I’m really stumped on this one. 4 out of 5 boxes on my home network- configured as a work group- are no longer able to surf. 3 are XP pro and one is XP home. The 5th box that can surf is XP pro. And all have SP2, Spybot and Symantec cooperate edition. On the boxes that I can’t surf I still can RDP outside the network to my office. In the event viewer I see the following error:

The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 13 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have tried many things including:
CMD line net stop w32time procedure
Disabling internet time sync.
Changing the lookup address
Installed Firefox just to check
Rebooted the boxes, router and modem
Made sure no local firewalls are running.
Ran SFC
Searched Google intensely for a solution.

I’m really at a loss for this.
Any ideas?

Is that Event ID # 29?

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...32Time&phase=1

Do you get this same error on all 4 computers?

Have you tried just as a test to turn off your Symantec programs?

Have you compared the ipconfig between those that don't work and the one that does?

start/run cmd

then type ipconfig /all

Just to verify: this setup was working properly previously?

Have you deleted your temp files and cookies: Tools > Internet Options > General

Also try: start/run cmd then type: ipconfig /flushdns

jephree
Thanks so much for your prompt attention and direction.
Compared the ipconfig /all and discovered/remembered that the box that can surf has a static IP and DNS. The other boxes are DHCP and have very different DNS addresses.
When I hard code the DNS from the working box everything works fine. Is it possible my ISP has a DNS issue?

Re: Totally stumped-unable to surf, w32time error?

I am sort of out of my depth here as I have no networking experience. As such I am just using my reference library.

Quote:
What is a DHCP lease?
A DHCP lease is the amount of time that the DHCP server grants to the DHCP client permission to use a particular IP address. A typical server allows its administrator to set the lease time.
This may relate to your Time32 errors?

Also I see this link:

http://www.dhcp.org/

Sorry that I cannot be more specific.

If this setup worked previously I would ask myself what could have changed? Did I do anything? Obviously the 4 computers have something in common that the other one does not. Have you contacted your ISP for any issues? etc.
