No sound after reformat of XP
Hi,
I've reformatted my XP and no longer have sound.
I've downloaded sound drivers: Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers ,
Realtek_ALCXXX_I0003 and still no sound.
Can anyone advise?
Thank You!

Re: No sound after reformat of XP
What is the exact make and model of the computer?
Did you download the drivers from the manufacturers site?

Re: No sound after reformat of XP
Thank you, I downloaded and installed the sound drivers from: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Produc...tailName=Driver
Unfortunately there still is no sound.
I have used the XP help for "no sound" and devices are working properly. There seem to be no conflicts as I see no yellow explantion marks.
Thank you
Nancy

Re: No sound after reformat of XP
On further review from Fry they link all their models to that ECS driver.
Try uninstalling the driver via the Device Manager.
Right click the device then click Properties > Driver > Uninstall
Then reboot the computer and then try to reinstall the driver from ECS.
If that doesn't work check your BIOS settings to verify that the Audio is not disabled.

Re: No sound after reformat of XP
I uninstalled the driver via device manager, only the realtek AC'97, correct?
Also listed :
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs
I just check the bios and saw nothing pertaining to sound. Where would it be listed?
CMOS
BIOS
CHIPSET
PERIPHERALS
POWERMANAGEMENT
PnP/pci configuration
PC Health
Thank you
Nancy

Re: No sound after reformat of XP
When I rebooted the computer after uninstalling the realtek driver- I was going to load the driver when this message popped up:
The software you are installing for this hardware
Realtek AC'97 Audio
has not passed Windows Logo testing to varify its compatibility with Windows XP
I clicked no, and then this popped up:
Cannot install this hardware
There was a problem installin this hardware
Multimedia Audio Controller
An erro occured during the installation of the device

Re: No sound after reformat of XP

Yes
Where would it be listed?
I would guess Peripherals
So the uninstall/reinstall did not work?
Why did you reinstall XP in the first place? Was the Audio OK before this?

You clicked no to stop the install?
If so ignore that message and say yes: install.
