Please Help! "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service"

I am receiving the above error with a windows XP machine I recently purchased used. The XP install seems fine, it's up to date with SP 2 and all latest updates. I receive this error whenever I try copying large files to the machine or when I try opening files/programs. It doesn't seem to be specific to any program. If I reboot, I'm able to copy files/run programs for a while then I start receiving the error again and have to reboot again. Is this indicative or a memory issue? Couldn't find anything on the MS knowledge base regarding XP.

How much RAM do you have? How large and free is the Hard Drive?

Quick searhes:

Also perhaps:

Check your Page File Size:

Right click My Computer then click Properties

Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual memory > Change

Is this set to System Manage Size?

Re: Please Help! "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service"

Thanks for your quick reply...

I am running with 512mb or RAM and a 20 gb hard drive with 70% free disk space. I checked my page file settings and they were set to 768mb, just like my laptop and another PC that are running fine. I went ahead and changed it to "System Manage Size" but that didn't help any. Finally, I realized that I began having this issue after I installed EZ Armour security suite which Road RUnner provides free of charge. I've been running issue free for 2 days after uninstalling EZ Armour. I installed AVG's free anti virus program and my machine is happy and so am I! Wonder if anyone else has seen this problem with EZ Armour.. I didn't find any references through google.

Thanks!

I was having the exact same problem. I'm also running EZ Armour. Thank you. I tried the same thing you mentioned, which didn't help. The thing that was really getting me was a friend purchased the same emachine and she never had the same problem. She's not using EZ Armour. I won't be either.
Again thank you for you help. Sandy
