\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM - Missing or Corrupt....and more

So a few weeks ago my computer started playing up, it would freeze to a blue screen with alot of writing on only for a few seconds before it re-booted, i eventually managed to pick out 'KERNAL_INPAGE_ERROR' before it did the usual re-boot.

Today it did the same, froze to the usual blue screen but this time on re-boot it threw up a new black screen with a new message basically telling me '\WINDOWSSYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM' is missing or corrupt.

So i found out what to do using the Microsoft site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us%3B307545

Now here is the real problem, I cannot start the Recovery Console from my XP disk because my hard drive refuses to be detected, it tells me no hard drive is attatched, to attatch one and try again, it tells me the same of course if i want to start a new fresh install, it just acts like my hard drive is'nt there.

I'm out of idea's really, so i thought i'd see if you guy's can help a little? would be great if you could throw a few idea's my way *smiles*

Here are a few specs of the computer, i can get more if you need it, just ask.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Hard drive: 160 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 S-ATA
1 GB of ram
GFX card: Radeon X800 GTO (PCI-e)

Thankyou in advance

Chris.

Does the BIOS detect the hard drive? Most systems enter the BIOS Setup via the Delete key after power on.

If not try reseating the connections.

ESD - What can I do to avoid damage

Have you tried a new IDE cable?

Perhaps try the drive on another computer?

It must be the motherboard connection or the cable or the drive.

Perhaps try the drive on Secondary Master i.e. use the CD cable to test.

It is an S-ATA drive, so it does'nt use IDE cables, my other computer uses IDE so i can't test it there...Sorry for the late reply, been a little busy, and yes...it's still not working *grins*

Sorry I missed the S-ATA detail. Have you tried both ports?

Also you could get a SATA/ATA adapter to test the drive and or the ports.
