New mobo, xp won't load now

I have a nc6000 laptop with xp home on it. I spilled some liquid in it a while back which fried the motherboard. You can see the very small area which was affected - I think the rest of the the hardware is ok. I replaced the motherboard with one that I have been told was tested and works.

I am now able to get through the XP loading screen, but then I get a blue screen with a stop error which says "memory parity error" and something to the effect of "hardware malfunction - contact your hardware vendor for support". There is no error code or other information.

I can start Windows successfully in safe mode, so am I correct in assuming it is probably not a hardware problem and more likely a resource conflict/driver issue? I re-seated the ram anyway, which did not help. I tried updating a few drivers (downloaded from hp), but get errors when trying to install them. I tried System Restore, last known good config, and safe mode with networking, all of which still give the memory parity error. Does this suggest a networking component as the culprit?

In Control Panel, there are two devices with question marks next to them: base system device and pci modem. To my knowledge, there is no modem in the laptop. I tried disabling the pci modem device - makes no difference. Also tried installing a driver for the 'Memory CardBus Accelerator Driver' which someone with the same laptop recommended (to try to fix the 'base system device' issue).

I am not sure what to do at this point. Would reinstalling xp probably solve this problem?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

try doing a clean install of xp and install all the drivers. also, is your RAM compatible with your motherboard? see the manual for info about that.

Hope this helps
Mike

Thanks for the advice. I switched out the ram, which is ok. I then reinstalled XP and that took care of the problem.
