Magenta monitor screen

My monitor screen has turned Magenta in color. I have a 20" CRT monitor with a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2MODEL 64 display adapter. When I logon to my system the screen will flash alternately between the normal white background and Magenta screen before becoming a constant Magenta. Would this indicate that one of the color guns in the moniotor have become defective or is there possibly an adapter card or software problem. My drivers are all up to date. Before I purchase a new monitor I would appriciate any help or suggestions anyone may have.

THANKS. Artiedu

Re: Magenta monitor screen

it could be that, but i would replace the VGA lead first, just to be sure. do you have a different graphics card to try (on-board graphics perhaps?)

also, is it just when you log on? or does it do this on the welcome screen aswell (if you leave it on for a bit)

Re: Magenta monitor screen

Mike thanks for the reply. Yes it does it on the welcome screen and remains. Another clue, sometimes after the screen has been in this Magenta state for some time, if I 'smack' the side of the monitor the screen will flip to it's 'normal' white background and remain, sometimes until I power down the system. In the old days when I use to do TV repairs this would be an indication of a faulty CRT with a loose gun element. The cabling seems to be OK. I don't have a graphics card to try.

Re: Magenta monitor screen

sounds like it could be, if you can, try and borrow a different monitor off a friend, family or collegue just to be 100% sure it is the monitor before you get another one
