User Mode Driver Framework Properties

Hi, I'm trying to sync a PMC to my PC but i keep getting an error message: "annot find path specified"

I went to the Windows User Mode Driver Framework screen, under computer management/services and the "path to executable" is blank. It should read something like (C:\Windows/system32/wdfmgr.exe)

The Wdfmgr.exe file exsits in system32. Any idea why the patrh does not exsits or how I can get it back into the Windows User Mode Driver Framework path to execute line??

Thanks.

Re: User Mode Driver Framework Properties

Is the Windows User Mode Driver Framework set to Automatic? Is it started? Can you start it?

It depends on Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Is this set to Automatic and Started?

You can try this reset of services:

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Under the General tab, check "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services",
click "apply" and reboot.

Also if this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Re: User Mode Driver Framework Properties

That was a good idea, I tried it but it didn't work. User mode won't start. Every time I try it come up with "no specified path". I'm sure it's because the path to execute line is blank. There has got to be a way to put the execute path (C:\Windows/system32/wdfmgr.exe) in that line. It won't let me type it in and one time I tried it came up "not allowed to chage path".

Thanks though.

Re: User Mode Driver Framework Properties

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

Did you run thru the Properties tabs to check Logon and perhaps Recovery?

You might be able to force a start by:

Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

and add: C:\Windows/system32/wdfmgr.exe

What happens when you put wdfmgr.exe into start / run?

The only other suggestion I am seeing at this point is a Repair Install of XP in order to restore all services. Although if you have a full version XP CD you might be able to copy the .exe over after re-naming the current (old) or perhaps run sfc /scannow

Re: User Mode Driver Framework Properties

I've never had a problem running anything. The only problem I have is connecting this PMC120 from Iriver.

Not sure what Logon and Recovery are?

I added the string in regedit, you can see the wdfmgr.exe run in task manager for about 5 sec then it just closes.

When I put wdfmgr.exe into the start/run the same thing as above happens.

I'll try a repair install of XP but i have to get a non-USB keyboard first. The problem I find with these USB keyboards is that you cannot get into BIOS or safemode.

Thanks again.

Re: User Mode Driver Framework Properties

Huray, I got it!

I found a download from Microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891122

Windows Media 9.5 Runtime. Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players

Rebooted and presto the executable path was there.

Thanks for your help!
