Ntldr is missing . user partition cannot be formatted

ok i have a probem
after looking for fixes for a game crashing
i thought hay long time since my last defrag

completely defragged my system then rebooted and all i got was
the options to reboot in safe mode/ safe mode with networking/ last known good configuration and normal

after trying each one twice from it looping i tried to system restore non destructivly.
then i get a
"ntldr is missing,
hit ctrl + alt + delete to retart"

upon restart i thought ok this isnt working go all out and reformat all of it. sure ill lose last 10 years of work music and games but it needs it.

now after what seems days , it hit 99% and was just finalising recovery when it says "cannot format user partiton"

any ideas? ive looked throu many sites and noe have been helpful
cheers,
hawke

Re: Ntldr is missing . user partition cannot be formatted

how big is your hard drive?
have you got just one operating system on the PC

have a look at the M$ site http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320397

you could try

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.
