InstallShield Problem..Maybe?

Hi guys/gals im having a little problem with installing new software on my computer through the use of either of my two disk drives. One is a CD-RW/DVD combo drive and the other just a DVD-Burner/DVD/CD-Rom combo drive. When i insert a disk such as command and conquer generals, the disk boots up fine and the autorun comes up with the menu to install the game and such, however the problem occurs when i click to install the game (this has happened on other game disks such as Tribes) after about 3 seconds an error message appears saying _isA.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close..we are sorry for the inconvenience and blah blah. I have a feeling InstallShield has somehow screwed up and im unsure as to what to do...just thought it would be great if anyone here knows it would be a great help.

Cheers.

Re: InstallShield Problem..Maybe?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Re: InstallShield Problem..Maybe?

This is one of the errors that is quite consistent and its to do with a .tmp file so i thought this could be one of the bugs, it appears more than once as well, and coincides with the date i tried to use the disk a few times. hope this helps, if not i might just do a reinstall of windows files.

Re: InstallShield Problem..Maybe?

As this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Otherwise you could also start > search > is.tmp or just .tmp and start deleting.

These are temporary files.

Do you have the latest Windows Updates? The latest Windows Installer? as well as the latest .NET framework? This would all be in Windows Update.

As a workaround it often works to copy the CD to your hard drive then installing from the hard drive.

Re: InstallShield Problem..Maybe?

I was thinking of doing a system restore, but i can't pinpoint exactly the date the problem started, although ive only just found out due to wanting to install something it may have been present for a while before...Thanks for your replies anyway Jephree, ill restore my computer and if that doesn't work ill suppose full format of my disk drive.

Cheers
