can't defrag!

can anyone help.

when i try to defrag, after the analyzing stage and the defrag starts, it just sits there for hours at 1%

i would be gratefull for any tips coz i'm kinda new to all this

can you try to defrag in safe mode. keep pressing F8 just before XP loads.

the reason normaly is you've got programmes running

thanks for the welcome.

i've tried defraging without anything else open or running. have now tried the defrag in safe mode and all that happens now is that it stops at 10% of the analyzing stage. not sure where i'm going wrong
