system reboting and freezing.

Hi
I have a problem with my PC
It will happen in application, game, surfing the net or while system is idle.
1. system will go to hard wait. not possible to get anything to happen only way is to turn off the power to get it going. If I look after restrarting in event viewer I can see only informational that tells me that apllication has ended
2. system will reboot by itself. and tells me to let MS know. This comes back with driver conflict.
3. a application will end. Abend in different modules
I have HP a384 AMD 2800 with 1 gig memory, 3 hd;s primary 80 gig (ide) and 2 36gig scsi, cd burner and dvd reader, video nvida mx440.
Window home ed service pack2 and all recomended updates applied. I run AVG AV, adaware and spyboot on the system. This has been happening for a while. Thanks In advance for any help

Re: system reboting and freezing.

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

Then:

1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

If you have multiple logs please note the basic similarities and also consider if they might have coincided with your present issues time wise.

We need to try and find the application and or driver involved.

This behavior could also be a hardware issue but let's see if the .dmp's show anything.

Re: system reboting and freezing.

Are you running both AVG and Norton products? If so you should only run one.

You also might as well check your RAM: http://www.memtest86.com/

Have you added any RAM or any other hardware that might have coincided with the start of this problem?

Please post any new dump logs.

Re: system reboting and freezing.

This page relate to your last error:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;329284

Memory (of some sort) appears to be the culprit. Let us know how MemTest goes.

Re: system reboting and freezing.

You said this has been happening for a while? Over a year?

Did the two sticks of RAM ever work well together?

As a test you might remove the stick that you added and see if the problem persists.

Please post any new errors and you also might check previous .dmp logs and or Event Viewer errors.

Comparing different .dmp logs often adds diagnostic leverage.

Re: system reboting and freezing.

Hi Jephree
Memory wa added probably july 05. Did not add any new hardware since nov 05 and that was HP 385 small printer. Problem started in march 06. initially system would freeze or rebooot maybe once a week or so that did not bother me that much. Currently there are days that I can have 2 or 3 freezes or reboots and sometimes it is OK for a day or two. Walter
