Upgrading from 98 to XP ?

Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading our current PC from win 98 to XP.

Is this an easy DIY job and do I have to backup the hard drive or anything like that ?

Thanks, Alex

Hi and welcome to D-A-L

does the PC meet the spec required for XP?

do you want to do a clean install or upgrade?

if you've got data on the drive you want to keep, it's best to back it up

Yes it meets the spec, I've checked that on the windows website.

What's the difference between clean and upgrade ? I think clean is when the hard drive would be re-formatted ? is this right ? if so no I'll just do an upgrade as I don't want to bother with installing everything again and moving all the data onto discs.

I would backup the most important things yes

Thanks

yes clean install is starting with a clean hard drive.

sometimes a clean install is best plus normally a full version is cheaper than an upgrade version.

Re: Upgrading from 98 to XP ?

Think I'll still go with the upgrade, so is it relatively straight forward ?
