bsod on boot in lap.

i have got a laptop that was working fine but when i formatted it lately i updated the bios(i think that is what messed the lap up) and i installed several other drivers .. from the manufacturers webpage and when i restarted the lap it turns on and when the first windows logo with the loading bar is about to appear a blue screen appears:

a problem has been detected...........technical information :

stop: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xf85630bf, 0x897f20c, 0xf897ef0c)

pci.sys - address f85630bf base at f855c000, datestamp 3b7d855c.

and i can not access the lap in safe mode, last known good configuration or anything.
so i placed the hdd from the lap in a external box and connected to my desktop, formatted the drive hoping it would work but it didint... when i try and install windows on it the lap loads up the disc, and just when the installation is about to ask me if i want to repair a windows install or install a fresh one the blue screen appears!
and i am absolutely lost regarding this, i have tried everything i am able to do.
please give me some advise on how to fix this, thank you.

Re: bsod on boot in lap.

Was XP pre-installed on the laptop (OEM)?

Are you trying to reinstall XP from an OEM disk?

If so it probably needed data that was on that hard drive which you removed (formatted).

If you are using a retail XP CD then the issue would be different.

As to your original error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839641

In general a hardware conflict. Many report the need to install from an XP SP2 CD to avoid this error.
