Re-formatting the hard drive, how to ?

Hi,

I've recently installed xp on to my comp which used to have 98 on. Some how it's kept all the old 98 stuff as well as all my old software including various games and files which adds up to nearly 40 Gb.

I want to get rid of all this anyway as we've been having a few problems which I'm pretty sure are related.

I want to re-install my new xp but get rid of all this old stuff. The way to do it, I think, is to re format the hard drive but I need some guidance on how to do this if this is the right way to go ?

Thanks, Alex
