Exclamation Problem, Need Help.

Greetings all! The introduction of this thread, is exactly what I need. So, I shall get down to business discussing my problem. My computer is a Compaq Presario 3000+ it's designed for Windows XP Home Edition. I've had it for a couple of years now, it's still in top condition. But lately, I've ran into a problem. When I try to do a system restore, I get this error hal.dll. saying it's either missing or corrupted. I've done numerous searches, for hours and came up with nothing. Every search, I've found needed a disk to fix this. But my computer never came with a disk. My computer has the important Windows XP information on a sticker located on the right side of my tower, including the product key. I'm really stuck on this, I need some Hopefully someone has the knowledge to help me.

Can you find your exact model here:

Do you have any problem outside of not being able to use System Restore?

If so what is the exact problem?

If necessary HP will sell the disks you need.

Well over-all, My computer works fine. I just want to system restore, my computer to get rid of everything. But can't do that because of the missing or corrupted file. So i'm puzzled to death on this issue.

Here's what my computer is.

Re: Problem, Need Help.

If you mean a restore to factory settings you would need the HP disks.

If you are saying that XP System Restore is not working this is completely different.

First off even if it were working it would probably only go back 6 weeks or so as restore points over write each other after the allotted disk space is filled.

If System Restore is not working it is best to turn it off then back on which will reset it. This will also clear all the past points but if they are not accessible there is not much to lose.

This reset is done via right clicking My Computer then click Properties then System Restore. Turn it off then turn it back on and it should start to function for the future.

Again if you are referring to an HP restore this is another issue.

If this is the case getting your exact model number would help us search the HP site for info.

Re: Problem, Need Help.

Strange, I've never needed a disk before. I've always done extreme system restore, To restore my computer to factory settings. I've never needed a disk for that, I mean i've got the xp information, serial, and other information on the right side of my computer, As i said earlier. But i never really paid attention to it, until now. I've read that some newer computers have it already built in. But i'm not smartly logical with computers, I mean i know some but not everything.

The model of my computer is, SR1403WM
