right basically my computer is fubarred i cant get into control panel it just crashes the pc

now i took the next logical step and did a virus scan for it only to also crash the pc so i tryed house call free online scan for that just to turn the internet window out

and also i have no sound on a lighter note i get a new laptop tommorow so can someone plz help me

Try booting into Safe Mode options:

After the power-on and BIOS POST or your Logo screen repeatedly tap the F8 key or hold the Ctrl key before Windows starts.

Choose: Safe Mode then System Restore

If no good try Safe Mode with Networking.

Does that work?

well i now have sound back but i still cant get into my control panel

just crashes the pc and now fire fox has decided it dont wanna work anymore

Did you do a System Restore?

Does it work in Safe Mode?

What is the make and model of the computer and what XP disk do you have? Retail or OEM?

yes did a system restore all the cd's i have is some medion xp recovery disk the thing is tho i just wanna be able to connect my new laptop to this machine and forget about the mess of this pc lol

It would help us help if you could take the time to describe the problems with the PC in detail. If you have a Recovery CD the most expedient course might be to Recover it to factory condition. This will eliminate all your data so you might want to back that up to DVD/CD first.

Outside of that why do you want to connect your laptop to this machine?

Connecting a new laptop up to a messy PC doesn't make much sense. Fix the mess first which a Recovery installation should do.
