Re: Laptop Freezing
Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?
Is this XP SP2?
Is the laptop old?
Does it get noticeably hot?

Re: Laptop Freezing
it's only about 3 years old. It started doing this even when I was running windows XP, before reformating and trying to reinstall XP. It keeps giving me errors on this as well. Like: Setup cannot copy the file: wdmaud.drv. I will skip then it does the same for wkssvc.dll. So it won't even let me reinstall XP properly

Re: Laptop Freezing
XP Setup errors are almost always hardware problems.
I am looking at the manual for any diagnostic ideas:

Are you able to boot into XP or what is the current status?

Re: Laptop Freezing
when a computer starts locking up the first thing i check is for overheating, you may have a dirty or slow turning fan. one way to check is let it cool and see how long it takes to lock up. then restart and see if it locks up quicker the next time. it will if its a heat problem.

Re: Laptop Freezing
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's overheating, but it's still giving me problems reinstalling XP

Re: Laptop Freezing
Are you using the AC adapter or the battery?
Are you familiar with opening the battery compartment?
If so you might try removing the battery and running off the AC adapter and see if it will install any better.
