Jump Drive problems
I sort of did an update of windows xp pro with a different cd than the one I had before. After I did the update, I can't see any USB drives i plug in. I see the computer lites flash and the message arrives indicating new hardware but I can't see it in the explore section. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Jump Drive problems
Are these new drives? Are they showing in Disk Management? Are they formatted?
Right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management

Re: Jump Drive problems
I should have been more specific. The drives I am talking about are the little key chain drives. You plug it into a USB port and away you go. No formatting involved.
Thanks

Re: Jump Drive problems
These drives should still show in Disk Management if I am not mistaken.
Do you see them there?

Re: Jump Drive problems
Yes, they are. Here is what I see.
Universal Serial Buss Controllers
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
There are symbols in front of the entries above.
Is this what you meant?

Re: Jump Drive problems
That looks like the data from the Device Manager.
Are you looking in the Device Manager or Disk Management?

Re: Jump Drive problems
Ok:
At the top I get
Volumn
F:
D:
In the gray area I get
Disk 0
Disk 1
Removable G:
CD-ROM 0
on line
CD-Rom 1
No media
While I was looking at the screen, I decided to insert my Lexar jump drive. Nothing happened but I couldn't do anything either. In a while I got the message, Server execution Failed.

Re: Jump Drive problems
If for example Removable G: is a blank or test device (no data you don't mind losing): see if you can right click on the right side of the graphic and choose Format...
Also: check your Services to verify that Logical Disk Manager is Started and set to Automatic.
Services is in Administrative Tools or start Run... services.msc
