Disc Drive Problems
Every time My Alien ware tries to read a disc it restarts, and continues restarting until I remove the disc. I've taken my computer back to the alien ware shop I got it from and they seem to have no problems with it.
Any help would be much appreciated

Re: Disc Drive Problems
Just to verify: by disk do you mean a CD/DVD?
If so does this happen on any CD/DVD?
Audio CD's? Or what type of CD's are you trying to run?
What exactly happens? You insert a CD and then... ?
Does XP close properly? Does it crash? Does it just go off and reboots?
Try changing this setting: right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery > Settings
Uncheck: > System Failure > Automatically Restart
Then try a disk and see if you get an error message. If so please post it back verbatim.

Re: Disc Drive Problems
Go to the Device Manager.
Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager
Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives
Then right click on your DVD/CD-ROM drive and choose Uninstall
Then reboot.
See if the problem persists then.

Re: Disc Drive Problems
Are you familiar with your BIOS Setup?
If so check that the DVD/CD-ROM drive is set to auto
Also in the Boot Order put it behind the HDD.
Also what is the exact model of Alienware?

Re: Disc Drive Problems
From everything I can see on-line this is probably a faulty drive and or connection.
I would suggest re-contacting the retailer and either finding out what they had done or tried and or take it back to them and make them show you that it works.
This definitely appears to be a hardware issue.
Perhaps a damaged pin.
