Partition? Any HELP?

I have restored my entire drive (I only have C drive, 250GB) because one of my system file was corrupted. Anyway, i was thinking about doing a partition so I can have two drives. The problem is, I know how to do partition when it was Windows 98 (Using ms-dos) but in XP I have no idea, I kinda know that there is a option in the Control Panel which can let you do partition. But thats only after I have my XP installed. So can anyone tell me how to do a correct and secure partition? Do I do it before installing XP or after? and How? After having two drives? how can I move some of my folders to the new partition so I don't get lost of my files in case that I need to restore the drive? THANK YOU!

Re: Partition? Any HELP?

i would partion a drive when setting up xp (you get an option when chosing a drive to install xp on, it says press c to create a partition) you then choose how big to make it (in meagabyts (MB))

then you select a partition to install windows on

Hope this is what you need,
Mike

Edit: to copy files to other patitions, you just simply copy and paste or grag and drop

Cool Re: Partition? Any HELP?

Hi Kyle,
I use a program called "Partition Magic" which works from within windows has allows you to partition, move and resize partitions wothout losing your data.
As it says, it's "Magic!"
It has a nice easy to use graphical interface so you can see the various partition sizes.
It used to be marketed by Powerquest but they were bought out by Semantec and I think it is now called "Norton Partition Magic".
HTH,
Regards.

Re: Partition? Any HELP?

Hi kyle_fei

In XP, go to Accessories>Admin Tools>Computer management>Disk Management and partition your HDD by right-clicking it there.

You can also get GParted LiveCD as an ISO image file, burn it onto a CD and then boot from it creating partitions: http://gparted.sourceforge.net

Hope it helps.
