Thank you for the response.
is the CD the one that came with the machine?
Right now its not. Its the one that came with a new laptop (about a year old). Do I need to recover the CD that came with the machine? (I'd have to search all my stuff and hope for the best). Is the repair install going to ask me for a password or a XP key? What can go wrong if I don't use the CD that came with the machine?
As far as drivers - we had lots of trouble when SP2 came down (I think ibm mailed some drivers on CD that had to be fixed) - but if I can recover the data - I guess I'd have to make the best of dealing with other problems.
I'm actually pretty sure the password is blank and it just won't let me in. I even found this MS KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308402. I don't have a floppy drive though. Do you think there is a CD solution related to that 6 floppy solution they propose?
Also, I still had a couple of follow ups:
1.) Are those ultimate boot type cds legal and might they help?
2.) Is there a restore recycle bin utility I could run? Those 2 files are sitting right there - that's why its so frustrating.
3.) What would happen if I just copied those 2 files on a CD and chose boot from CD - would that work? I know the user passwords - its just the blank admin password causing me trouble.
Thanks Dan. I appreciate your time and thoughts.
