Norton Antivirus Password help
OK, so my ex roomate renewed my expired version of Norton Anti Virus. It worked fine for a while. Then it expired. My new roomate attempted update the expired version. It turns out that my old roomate set up a password.
I of course do not know this password, and neither does my ex roomate.
This is all I get from Norton:
If you forget your options password, you can reset it.
To reset your security options password
Do one of the following:
On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
On the Windows XP taskbar, click Start > Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
In the list of currently installed programs, click Norton Internet Security.
Do one of the following:
In Windows 2000/Me, click Change/Remove.
In Windows 98, click Add/Remove.
In Windows XP, click Change.
In the Remove Application window, click Reset Password.
In the password reset dialog box, in the Reset Password Key text box, type the Reset Password Key that appears above the text box.
The Reset Password Key is case-sensitive.
In the New Password and Confirm New Password text boxes, type a new password.
Click OK.
In the Remove Application window, click Cancel.
In the Exit? alert, click Yes.
This does not work, because whenever I click the change or remove button it tells me that: "A Norton Internet Security account with supervisor access must be logged in to uninstall the product."
Well, umm, the whole point of this little reset password excercise is because I can't log into the supervisor account. So, basically norton is telling me that "if I forget my password to the supervisor account, then just simply log onto your supervisor account w/ the password that you have forgotten, in order to change the password so that you will now be able to log onto your supervisor's account."
Yea, useless information right.
So I did some digging and found this:
If you forget your password, you can change or reset it from the Help button in the Norton AntiVirus main window.
To reset a password
At the top of the main window, click Help & Support.
If a menu appears, click About Norton AntiVirus.
Select the Norton AntiVirus tab, then click Reset Password.
In the password dialog box, type the Reset Password Key exactly as it appears in the window.
Type and re-type a new password.
Click OK.
The Reset Password button is turned on only after you turn on password protection for options on the Miscellaneous section of Norton AntiVirus options.
Only promblem w/ that is, that you must be logged into a supervisor account in order to even obtain those options.
Basically Norton is telling me, that if you forget your password, that the only way to get it, would be to suddenly remember it again and then change it. Please tell me that a company who has made millions off of this product is not that incompetent.
My version is Norton 2005. Please Help.
Thank You.
