Desktop background problem

Using XP SP2.

I downloaded a new picture as my desktop background, decided I didn't like it and reverted back to my original picture. Now when I shut down, after 'Saving your settings', the picture I don't want briefly appears. At startup, it appears before my desktop comes up, then disappears. My original picture than appears on the desktop. How can I get rid of the image that I don't want?

is this picture on an external drive?

No, I just copied it from 'my pictures' after downloading it to there.

oooh, i am having trouble with a pic on an external drive as my desktop, i will have to transfer it over to my internal drive...

you could try a system restore??
