No programs in Add/remove programs list

I recently installed windows XP over previous installation of windows 95. I didn't think to format the drive before installation, so the computers crammed with all the old programs.

Now when i try to use the Add/ remove programs tool, on XP, there are no applications listed, (except newly installed ones). How do i refresh this list to include all of the programs installed before i installed windows XP.
